Hey, I'm a munaqaba, ok? But ... how is that?

O Eid al fitr é o último dia do mês sagrado do Ramadan e a festa mais importante do calendário Hijr, o calendário islâmico.

This photo up there is a picture of me in the Mosque of São Bernardo do Campo (SP) during the Eid al Fitr 2012. Eid al Fitr is the last day of the holy month of Ramadan and the most important festival of Hijr calendar, the Islamic calendar.

Hey, I'm a real muslim woman, okay? =)

And I'm a real munaqaba too, okay?

Ok Gisele. Now you will start to mix the themes of the two blogs here and start publishing Islamic themes? No, not like that, okay?

For those who don't know, I have two blogs. This is my personal blog, and in addition to this blog, I have the blog Filha da Alvorada (Daughter of the Dawn) - http://filhadaalvorada.blogspot.com.br/ - my islamic blog.

But I'm always a Muslim. I am a muslim laughing, crying, walking, sleeping, feeding me, playing guitar, always am a Muslim because Islam is not simply a religion. I am not Muslim only when I'm in the mosque, or when I'm praying. Islam is a way of life, complete, perfect, and for me to be a Muslim is to live in an Islamic way, okay?

But back to the topic of this post ... What is to be a munaqaba? Why I 'm a munaqaba?

Well I 'm a munaqaba cause I decided to wear the niqab, a veil that covers the face.

But wear niqab is much deeper than just putting a small piece of cloth in front of your face, wear niqab is learning the concept, reflect on your life, decide to be a munaqaba, and finally be profoundly modified by you have decided to be a munaqaba.

When I reverted to Islam, I was not a munaqaba. One day, a friend who had lived in the Middle East and wore the niqab there, asked me to help her return to using the niqab here in Brazil, and I decided to help her by doing short trips with her wearing the niqab, both wearing niqab, and this experience made me feel very good wearing niqab.

Then I started reading about this a lot and learn a lot about different concepts, reasons and opinions about the munaqabat.

I thought a lot and studied a lot before taking this decision, and it was really something taken seriously by me, okay?

I set that from the moment I passed through the front door of my house wearing niqab, I never pass through this door without being the niqab, and that's how I did when I first through the door of my house using niqab, I never went through the door of my house without niqab.

Today, I don't use other types of clothing, I use exclusively isdel, niqab and gloves, I cover myself whole, and always thank Allah for the gift I have managed to become a real munaqaba.

Now comes the part of reflection on this ...

What does being a Brazilian woman, a woman who is descended from Germans, with green eyes, measuring 1.73 tall, and Muslim, and munaqaba in Brazil? And to complete the picture, be guitarist in a heavy metal band, and be very humorous and happy? = D

Yes yes it is a constant exercise of experiences, dialogue with the world, and consistency, okay?

There are people that know me and say "you dare." Or tell me I'm brave. There are still those who say with certainty that I 'm the exception to every rule, and not serve as a reference for anything ...

I think what really moves me is the need. The need for truly live, to be myself, to enjoy life, to be free!

This shocks you? It should not shock you! After all, contrary to what you may think, we Muslim women who follow Islam in fact, we are free, and we demand our right to freedom, we have the same right to express freely our choice in our way of life and our clothes too.

And I feel I was born to be a munaqaba, then I have the right to be a munaqaba, and nothing in this world has the power to stop me from being a munaqaba.

Know? I'm shy, very shy ... I wish I had 1,50 m tall, because then I would not draw attention in the crowd, but I don't have this measure and therefore have to deal with it.

I live in Brazil, and there are not many munaqabat here. When I go out, I always attract people's attention, but I know how to handle it so naturally positive and affirmative, cause I'm very sure of my choices and makes me consistent and always makes me feel good, and people may feel it in me.

Besides, I like talking to people. I think I speak speak speak to mask my shyness, and I'm always friendly, so when a person approaches me and asks if she can take a picture, I usually say yes, and if you want to talk, I talk too, I'm always like, okay?

And I seen exclusively isdel. I do not wear abaya or more, I have several abayas and not use. I love isdel, is the perfect outfit for me, Alhamdulillah!

I'm glad to become a munaqaba, and have made this transition that actually changed me profoundly and improved many things in me. I improved the way I look and feel the world around me, my behavior, my understanding, I became more calm, reflective, with more awareness about many aspects of life, and this is what is actually being a munaqaba. .. put a small piece of cloth over his face, this is easy, very easy, and doesn't mean anything. Being a munaqaba, wear niqab, is something much deeper than most people might assume it to be.

Salam =)

Being a munaqaba implies fight a jihad. And jihad doesn't mean "war" or "holy war" as the tabloids scream in the West, or to those who confuse opinions and concepts and leading a mass in desperation and fanaticism is highly profitable and useful ... Jihad means personal effort to overcome.

Being a munaqaba implies consistency. It also involves awareness of your choice. Being a real munaqaba is putting the niqab and know that this is a serious step and definitive in your life, okay? =)

But why I 'm a munaqaba? Cause this is my life choice, to live my faith, always be distinguished as a religious woman, because it made me have always remembering Allah, because this is my way of being myself, and I was born to be a munaqaba, okay? =)

Alhamdulillah!

And I will be a munaqaba until the end of my life, Insha Allah!

Salam =)

    1. Salam, música é o meu único trabalho atualmente tá bom? Mas nós mulheres muçulmanas sofremos preconceito sim no mercado de trabalho, na verdade eu voltei a tocar por conta disto, eu estava desempregada e o vocalista do SPECTRUS me convidou para entrar na banda, já que a banda estava voltando e os meus irmãos não tocam mais, tá bom? =)
